Lindsay and Justin met while attending the University of Georgia together in Athens, so it was only fitting that we head back to where it all began for their sweet and stylish southern engagement session.
We started our shoot at the iconic Founder’s Memorial Garden on a perfect late-summer day. This little tucked away oasis commemorates the founders of the American garden club movement, established in Athens in 1891.
Among the many picturesque features of the 2.5 acre land, we wandered around the cozy courtyards surrounding the historic rose-brick Greek Revival garden house, stone staircases with ivy-covered walls, and a willow-shaded terrace overlooking the sunken garden.
If Lindsay and Justin weren’t gorgeous and fun-loving enough together, they also borough their adorable bulldog Lily to the shoot! This was her photoshoot debut, so naturally she had a sweet floral collar for the occasion.
I could have spent all day in the garden with the three of them, photographing the endless nooks and crannies…but there was still plenty more of the iconic campus to explore!
From the garden, we made our way to a second campus landmark, the UGA Chapel. Another Greek Revival structure, the fully-white chapel reflects the beautiful afternoon sunlight, making for a radiant glow to stroll through in between the giant Doric columns.
At this point, our engagement session had pretty much all of my favorite things…puppies, gardens, architecture, and soft white light. I’m always determined to squeeze every ounce of sunlight out of the day though, so with twilight starting to set in, we wrapped up the session walking past more rose-brick buildings and wrought iron gates, while making sure Lily got enough love and camera time in!
This was my first trip to Athens and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day spent exploring this historic southern town and the University of Georgia campus for Lindsay and Justin’s engagement. I can’t wait for their wedding day next year at the Atlanta History Center’s Swan House, which will be equally matched in beauty and charm with planning by Browne & Towers Events.
